The Chamber recognizes that the long-term viability of our region’s growth and prosperity is directly influenced by the contributions its leaders make.  As our community becomes more diverse, it’s important to ensure our leaders reflect the community they serve.  As the fastest growing population in the country, it’s important for Latinos to serve in leadership roles in the public sector to ensure representation and a voice on key policy issues facing their community.

Therefore, we are creating the first-ever Hispanic Leadership Institute in San Mateo County that aims to:
  • Strengthen Latinos knowledge of state and local politics.
  • Engage Latinos to become civically involved in San Mateo County by serving as Leaders on local agency boards/commissions, elected office, corporate and non-profit boards.
  • Create a strong network of Latino Leaders from business, non-profit, government and other key sectors.
  • Create a pool of Latino leaders for county/city leaders and agencies from which to appoint to boards/commissions/committees.
The Hispanic Leadership Institute curriculum provides participants with the opportunity to learn from current local and state government officials, community leaders, political strategist and media experts on becoming an effective civically engaged leader that will benefit the long-term well-being of San Mateo County.
